The concept of osseointegration involves the use of a biological process to create a bond between the bone and the titanium or zirconia materials used for the implant. After achieving this process, a dental prosthetic is then attached to the implant. Dental implants consists of three parts which includes:-

The dental implant is the foundation that supports the overlying abutment and crown. The surgical procedure includes various steps and the time depends on the healing and waiting process of your new bone in your jaw. The material used and the procedure followed may vary depending upon the situation even sometimes the steps can also be combined. Well the steps include bone grafting, placing dental implant, waiting for the bone growth, placing the abutment, and then placing the artificial teeth.
A surgical stent is an appliance which is used by the dentists for radiographic valuation of height and width of the specific bone for the implant placement during treatments and even surgical procedures as it provides sites for optimum implant placement.
There are a number of types of surgical stents available in the market such as clear vacuform stent, self cure acrylic stent with lead strips, self cure acrylic with metal sleeves and disks, and self cure acrylic with channel filled with gutta percha. All these types have their own pros and cons as well. Among all the types, a clear surgical stent is one of them. Clear surgical stent is the most preferred stent among all as it is simple, quick to fabricate and is flexible but due to its excessive flexibility it may create some problems in positioning of the implant and is a bit less accurate.
There are two types of surgical stents for implants that are fixed type and variable positioning type. The variable type stents consist of vacuform or acrylic resin templates tailored over duplicated casts of diagnostic wax-up. Fixed stents no longer permit variants of implant location. These consist of plastic or metallic tubes and channels in acrylic resin that dictate the placement of implants. Stents have to be fabricated from obvious material, strong and inflexible while in position, have to cowl sufficient teeth to stabilize its position, and while no teeth are present, stents have to make bigger onto unreflected gentle tissue regions. The surgical stents organized with CT and CAD/CAM generation are much much greater cost-powerful than a traditional surgical stent and require sufficient time and unique middle and/or laboratories for his or her fabrication and afterward their correction if required. In this study, we used conventional surgical stents to assess their efficacy in figuring out the placement and diameter of implants.
