What are removable dentures?
If you’re missing one or more teeth from injury or any other reason, removable dentures might be a good option depending on your needs and desires, either long-term or as a temporary measure. These types of dentures are custom made that usually consist of pink or gum-colored bases made from materials like acrylic, nylon, or metal, which fit over the gums or remaining teeth to give the patient a full teeth appearance and will help you function chewing and talking more normally. With modern state-of-the-art technology, dentures appear and feel more realistic, help prevent your existing teeth from shifting and enhance the appearance of your smile. However they may take some time to get used to.
There are 3 types of removable partial dentures: acrylic tissue-supported dentures, dentures with cast metal framework dentures with cast metal frameworks and (semi)precision attachments. Consult a dentist to find out which type of denture is better for you depending on your teeth’s requirements whether to use partial full dentures or flexible partial dentures.

How does removable denture work?
Full or partial dentures consist of a pink or gum-colored base made of plastic resin, that fits over the remaining alveolar ridge formerly held the teeth. It’s crucial that the dentures are fitted properly as they are held primarily by the suctioning effect of their close fit against the alveolar ridges. The upper denture gets extra support from the large surface area of the roof of the mouth, which helps to make it extremely stable.
Wearing dentures may take some time getting used to in talking and eating, as the dentures need to be balanced in the space formerly occupied by the teeth. However, over time, the muscles, nerves and ligaments of the mouth will learn to function and work normally. The form and size of the base of a denture must be correct to restore normal facial contours and enhance dental aesthetics. If the denture is putting too much pressure in a specific area that area will become sore however never force the denture into position by biting down as this could result in bending or breaking of the clasps. Your dentist will adjust and give you specific instructions about how long the denture must be worn as unlike fixed dentures it can be removed or replaced.
